Small Painted Wooden Secretary Desk In The Louis XVI Style
A small, cream-painted wooden writing desk from the 19th century, designed for children.
The upper section opens to reveal a drawer and a small pull-out compartment.
In the center, the drop-down panel reveals two drawers and a shelf.
The lower section opens with a door concealing a shelf.
It rests on two tapered, fluted legs at the front and two rectangular-section legs at the back.
This secretary desk is adorned with painted decoration on three sides in the Neoclassical style of Louis XVI.
It features garlands and bouquets of flowers, foliage, bows, and ribbons.
The top is adorned with a cartouche depicting an allegorical scene of Achilles’ education by the centaur Chiron.
The lower door is decorated with a medallion bearing the image of Cupid.
