Guignol Theater

Guignol theater in painted and gilded wood, late 19th-early 20th century.
The upper part in sky blue painted wood is decorated with gilded stucco with scrolls, shells, bouquets of flowers and composite order columns flanked by the attributes of music.
The base is decorated with an engraving representing a gallant scene highlighted by a plinth in painted wood imitation marble.
The curtain is lowered by means of a crank.

Guignol is a French glove puppet created in Lyon around 1808 by Laurent Mourguet. The term also refers to the comic puppet theater in which Guignol is the main character, forming with Gnafron and Madelon the recurring trio of pieces from the classical repertoire.
